DESCRIPTION OF IRIS' ART
Iris tries to re-create the wildness of nature in her textile art. Her work has a touch of “Art Nouveau”, 50’s Hermes-like floral style. Her silk and linen pieces are decorated ornamentally with botanic imprints in a bouquet of colours and forms. Iris is very subtle and somewhat careful in the enforcement of the imprints. Her Swiss precision in operating her printing press machine is a fundamental chore. She believes in clean and solid work.
Her efforts are admirable in using perennials, wild flowers from the meadows, weeds, vegetables and the like as subjects for her art. She creates her pieces intuitively. Iris is a sensual person. She has gone through an enduring process to define herself with her chosen medium of art. Today, in her seventies, Iris decided once more to rejuvenate her clean and solid work. Her today’s art pieces magnify the linking passage between her traditional craft and today’s contemporary demands....
For the last two decades the uniqueness of her work has been recognised internationally and is collected not only in Ireland but also in countries as diverse as Switzerland, France, Australia, Japan and the USA.
